Trace
Foster Stilp

Trace consists of a curated selection of individual frames of a film, extracted and hand-traced onto semi-transparent paper and then illuminated from behind with a projector.  The content for the tracings and the projection is a five second clip from the prehistoric introduction to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, a cerebral and dystopic story about primitivity, technology, and unearthing.  The structure holding Trace is dark and provocative, calling attention to itself both as a structure to support an artwork and as a sculptural design.
