Sike: Mystical Fjords

by

The premise behind “Sike: Mystical Fjords” is to touch on the general public’s view of superstars in today’s society. Often we see famous stars and view them as something they are not. While they may have fame and money they are still human beings. Sike’s character has neither fame nor money, but what he does have is a willingness to be himself – even if his family is ashamed of him, and he only has a single fan. I think it’s important for us to begin showing more respect to those artists like Sike who choose to be themselves and reject the star culture that we see every day on MTV. Many of the mainstream artists that are the most popular are not actually what they portray themselves as. Sike’s character is meant as a commentary on the illusory nature of stardom.

Sike has always thought of himself as the greatest thing to ever come out of Iceland. The problem is that nobody really knows who he is and his music leaves listeners wondering what exactly they just experienced. However, his latest single “Everybody Know Me” has led to Sike’s first known fan, Claire. After the two make contact, Sike eventually travels to the United States to pursue his goal of becoming a famous pop star and to meet his lone, loyal fan.

We first meet Sike in Iceland where he is shooting a music video for “Everybody Know Me”. While his lyrics lack substance and any type of meaningful content, there is no doubt that this classic jam will be stuck in your head all day. Nevertheless, Sike is determined to prove to his father and brother that he really can make something of himself.
