Two Missed Calls
by Cristina Ossers
I’m interested in technologies’ ability to manipulate documentation that explore and create new perspectives.
Two Missed Calls is an assemblage of found objects framing footage from my childhood. Buried under scrap wood and electrical cords are televisions produced in the same historical era as the source footage. Looping on the televisions are two VHS recordings edited with the VCR using pause, rewind and fast-forward.
The manipulated footage is a frenzy provoked by a recent event; it both distances me from the source and creates a conversation framed by recollection.
Since I am one of the subjects in the footage, watching the camera operator’s observations brings me closer to the documentation and investigates its impact on here and now.
